a typical roadside restaurant in the Draa valley
Although we have organised many tours in Morocco in the past, this touring is a pioneer expedition, as we will be trying some new routes in the southern foothills of the High Atlas and great unspoilt northern Sahara. We use charming hotels of good standard when practicable, sometimes simple village hotels and bivouacs. Breakfast and evening meals are provided at the overnight points, and lunches are usually picnic lunch or a local roadside restaurant with the group or individually.

MOROCCO, HIGH ATLAS, SAHARA

The starting point is near Malaga, Spain, and we travel together to the ferry crossing between Algeciras and Ceuta. You have an option to travel with the support team team from the South of France, through Spain en route to Morocco.

Ait Benhaddou, protected traditional village, now a Unesco world heritage site Morocco is truly a different world, the friendly Berber population, the colourful markets, good food, many different tribal cultures, and unspoilt areas in the southern part of the country.

We enter the African continent after a short ferry crossing, travel south across the Rif mountains and along the Atlantic coast, visiting places of interest en route, such as the imperial city and capital Rabat.

After Casablanca we leave the coast behind and head for the colourful Marrakech. An old, imperial city, with the famous Djema El Fna market, where camel caravans used to come in from the Sahara, and this is where the real Morocco begins. From Marrakech we visit to some of the lesser known villages in the foothills of the High Atlas. Here we find the genuine, hospitable Berber people. Although some areas have benefited from tourism and recent years investments in infrastructure, there are still villages without electricity and running water, where life has not changed much in a thousand years.
camels in the desert, near Mhamid, southern Morocco We will visit some of the remote villages and try to determine how we can be of help now and for the future. This includes establishing contact with local non-profit organisations and schools.

We ride across the High Atlas over the 2,260 meters Tizi n' Tichka pass (Video Tichka with GS) on the way to the edges of the Sahara. From Ouarzazate, made famous by films such as the Jewel of the Nile, Cleopatra, Gladiator and others, we follow a beautiful string of oasis in the Draa valley down to Zagora and beyond, from where there are optional offroad sections of the touring adventure, with spectacular desert scenery.

We have a stopover this remote area, you can relax in a tranquil oasis, or take an excursion by camel or by quad, if you, or your pillion, want to experience other and unusual means of transport.

bedouins no, it is just Erik and a local in the zouk Before heading back to Europe we can experience Eastern Morocco, and as we travel north we pass through Er-Rachidia, the scenic Ziz gorge, the impressive cedar forests, visit the bustling, historic city of Fes or Meknes, which means crossing all 3 mountain ranges, the High Atlas, then the Middle Atlas and the Rif Mountains...

We cross into into Spain, where the tour ends with a farewell party.

Shorter adventures can be organised for small groups, for example a 1-week option, with rented motorbikes, starting and ending in Marrakesh.

Sponsoring your travel costs:
Subject to our guidelines you can display advertising on your motorbike and clothing, on the web, as well as photos and video footing for web use, which makes it easier for you to obtain sponsorships towards your costs or towards equipment. Promoting your own business or career is another opportunity.

Social awareness:
When travelling off the beaten track, we are making an impression on the local people we come into contact with, and we have a moral obligation to ensure it is a positive one. In the remote mountain areas people need warm clothing, school books, medical equipment - the list is long. One of the aims of this particular tour is to determine how and where we can help make a difference by improving the lives of the local people in remote mountain villages, without spoiling their culture.

Our charity of choice:
On this touring adventure you have the possibility to save lives by sponsoring the charity Against Malaria, where 100% of donations go towards distributing mosquito nets in affected areas world wide. You can create your own sponsorship page and invite other people to sponsor your endeavour to raise money, for example by sponsoring a dollar for every kilometer you ride. Five dollars will buy and distribute a mosquito net. That way every 5 kilometers can save a life. More...
