Different types of holiday: ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAYS

Types of holiday

When it comes to booking a holiday, you have several options. You can book the individual components of the holiday separately online, go for a package holiday that includes flights, accommodation, and car hire, or go for an all-inclusive holiday that includes everything you might need while you are away, such as food, activities, and refreshments, as part of the package. Here we shall discuss the merits of each approach in turn in order to help you make the right choice when booking your next holiday.

Do It Yourself (DIY) Holidays

This type of holiday has become popular in recent years due to the fact that you can now book flights, accommodation, and car hire fairly easily and cheaply online. This approach offers the holidaymaker plenty of flexibility, but it is not without its drawbacks. For example, it is a lot more time consuming to book your holiday in this fashion, and you usually have to pay for everything when you book, as opposed to paying in instalments. Also, you have less consumer rights if you do it this way, and if you should have to cancel your holiday for any reason, you will not be refunded. While you can get travel insurance to give you some financial protection against cancellation due to ill health or the bankruptcy of a tour operator, the onus is on the person that booked the holiday to sort this out. However, if you have plenty of time on your hands and don’t mind the added responsibility of being your own travel agent, this can be a very cost effective way to book a holiday.

Package Holidays

Up until fairly recently, the vast majority of foreign holidays were of the packaged variety. Package holidays typically include several elements of a holiday, such as travel, accommodation, and car hire, and you can usually pay for it in instalments in the months leading up to your date of travel. While it can be a little more expensive to do it this way, it is a lot less hassle, and if anything goes wrong with any aspect of your holiday, you can simply call your travel agent and leave it to them to sort out.

All Inclusive Holidays

Some travel agents, such as Thomas Cook, offer all inclusive holidays that include everything you might need to enjoy your holiday, such as flights, accommodation, food, refreshments, car hire, and planned activities. Usually, this works out cheaper than if you were to pay for all these things separately, thanks to the bargaining power of the travel agencies, and if anything were to go wrong with your holiday, it is up to the travel agent to sort it out for you. These can be a good option for families and those on a budget, as it is much easier to budget for a holiday where everything is paid for in advance.
